Got to talk a bit more about my old man with my mom, which is rare because it's a bittersweet history. He died too young. All I remember of him where his hands and fingers wrapped around me, holding me steady while I sat on the grass at a park. I must have been only a year old.
Not sure when it came out, perhaps late 1960's/early to mid 1970's. This song is very well known within the Spanish speaking people throughout many countries. Many have covered it, but this one's the best in my opinion. It's an "Ode" to the Old Man, "Mi Viejo". The lyrics are simply beautiful. I can't really translate it well. Basically, the son talks about how kind his father is, describing the ageless wisdom his father possesses, also describes a couple of things about his aging features like his subtle walk, good eyesight but heavy-set. But all-in-all, although ages apart, they're both the same.
Yo soy tu sangre, mi viejo. (Father, I am your blood.)
