Default This forum fails yet again

This forum always comes back in some form, gets lots of attention for a couple of weeks, and then slowly dies. Always. Way to keep up the good work, Fanhost.

The majority of this forum is "I like this and that" and then other people agreeing and trying to look smart because they know about one painting or some old book nobody knows. The only people having any worthwhile discussion are Cat and Moshe in that classical literature thread.

Mmmmm so you have expectations for this forum that haven't been met? Interesting.

I guess a person puts a few dozen hours of his life into something, cranks out a few hundred thousand words here and there, he feels a sense of ownership. He gets invested, you know? Even tho the community hasn't remained static over the three of four years I've been visiting, I feel invested in it. I feel like my posts contributed something to this forum.

You'll get a lot farther, Spoon in society if you attempt to learn who the scared 'noodlenecks' are you're dealing with. Modern society is increasingly devoid of community, this forum is a great idea, just don't expect it to be your personal clubhouse.

Moments like these is what tiggers loves best.

Beefy's right, when you make a section of a community board your own personal sandbox, you're killing the *community* out of it. Look what happened to the Whatever forum. We have lots of members who come to FH but why do you think they stay away from Whatever and stick to their celeb forum, when Whatever was meant to be where everyone from the bulletin board would just chill. That's the primary reason why ppl have been talking sh!t about FH to this day.

Now my nipples are hard.

I really liked the forum! Maybe it's bit quiet today but then some of the other people here do have jobs - they can't all be pompous students locked away in their study reading books all afternoon with just an occasional 15 minute break for gazing at my favourite photo of prince charles' face for inspiration (i know what a beautiful life). BUt you're right we need to have a nice logo. I want a painting of a book (hardbacks are best).

^ Thank you Moshe. What you said is exactly what has happened. A number of us have had a shlt load to do lately (at least Ophelia and myself) and just haven't had the time to sit on our asses and amuse the king there. Of course, if you're willing to pay my bills Spoon I'll sit around and get this forum up to your standards on a full-time basis.

Ophelia and I are already working on the logo Moshe, we'll consider your suggestion and are planning on at least using similar. My apologies to Spoon for my not being able to pull one out of my ass as he deems necessary.

The whole place is quiet this extended holiday weekend (in the USA). People are stuffing their faces, shopping and watching (American) football on TV in that order. BTW the Macy's parade in New York was a bust as broadcast on NBC. They showed more out of work actors, singers and dancers, thanks to the writer's strike, than balloons, floats, and marching bands. I hope the Tournament of Roses parade from Pasadena, CA on New Year's Day is not as screwed up by the networks.

I'm enjoying the debate here, some interesting stuff is being brought up about the psychology of forums and what people expect out of them and what they're prepared to put into them.

Meh, the lot of you need to chill out. You're all right. I personally want anybody to feel welcome here, whether they are some poetry quotin' genius like person or just read pop-up books and despise pretension.

And that includes Spoon's lovely criticism. I may be tempted to kick him in the sack, but that's his point of view and its valid to him, so let him whine.
