Default Non-Fiction

I just recently read a book called Rats by Robert Sullivan which was very good. A researcher in NYC decided to start researching the lives of rats and rat culture. Let it be known, I hat the critters, but this book was very interesting and not without humor. I learned a few interesting things I didn't know, like the plague was not actually spread by Rats but by Rat Fleas - the plague would kill the Rats then the fleas would leave the dead rats and move on to other rats or humans.

moving on...I'm really interested in reading this little piece of nonfic - Endangered Pleasures: In Defense of Naps, Bacon, Martinis, Profanity, and Other Indulgences by Barbara Holland. No explanation needed.

Also - i want to plug a website that I love for good suggestions for non-fiction books. nonanon.com The chic reads like a book a day -no lie, and she's funny as chit which is always a big plus.

Oooh, nice topic Op! My latest non-fiction read was "The Fabulous Girl's Guide to Decorum", not a particularly good or interesting book, but worth reading for it being something different. The next that I'll move onto will be either "Imagining Columbus", a book on the myth of Columbus, or "Shaggy Dogs and Black Sheep" which is a book on the origins of phrases.

There's a rare and out-of-print book that someone read to me through Skype about the last hours of Prince Siddhartha Gautama. I'm not sure if it was based on the actual last hours or just a story "inspired" by it. I haven't been able to reach my friend who's in Northern Cali. He recently had his first born son so he's got his hands full.

Phoenix if you genuinely like buddhism then you absolutely have to read this http://www.amazon.com/Buddhism-Tools...4215862&sr=8-1

The best buddhist book I've ever read! Very down to earth. Not recommended for the pseudo-pseudo-intellectual poseurs who populate our board (yes I am at least a pseudo-intellectual).

I know there are no reviews for it on amazon (I was going to write one this week then got lazy) so yeah you have to trust me. BUt most buddhist books end up in my dustbin. This is so much better. He doesn't write any rubbish about re-incarnation or "existence = suffering". It's just some very practical and warm-hearted advice.

Sticking to the theme, this is another fabulous book. Very fun read, although he is a bit of a zealot!

Non-fiction is for sad little rubic stuffed bunnies who believe whatever their mommy told them after sex.

Fiction's the limitless blind eyeball to the world. It's the only way to see the forest for the trees.
