Hairspray 2 OFFICALLY Axed!

Since this place is more or less a Ghost town these days, I thought I would post some Amanda-ish news regarding Hairspray 2. In my opinion, I am glad this project is dead but I know some who will be very sad(including Amanda who needs the work)

'Film bosses have scrapped plans to bring movie-musical Hairspray back for a sequel. Executives at the New Line studio commissioned the screenwriter behind the 2007 film, John Waters, to create a script for a follow-up, with plans to bring Zac Efron back to star in a second picture.

In December, Waters revealed he had completed the job, telling Australia's The Herald Sun, "They liked it. They paid me. That's the last I've heard of it... They asked me to write the treatment but I'm so obsessive I wrote every single thing that could happen to every character. It's different. You can't tell the same Hairspray story again, it's been told three times."

However, Hairspray director Adam Shankman has now confirmed plans for a sequel have been dropped. He tells the Associated Press, "I'm going to kill that rumor now - that got killed. I was so happy with the first one, let's leave well enough alone. It's all good."

Would have posted the news myself, but just thought it might have been the logical conclusion of that one tweet from Shankman when asked about it.

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. I'm sure it would have been fun and cute and all, but, at the end of the day would it have been anything more than a footnote? Probably not. Sure, I hear that John Waters gave it his blessing, but really...where would they have taken the story without recycling the same themes? Why run the risk of destroying all of that fun of 2007?

Oh well. Life goes on. Continue to hope good things for the future and all that...

On the flip side, I would LOVE to see Amanda star in a new original John Waters film.

...I assume you're talking about me? Thanks for the welcome!
I was kind of looking forward to Hairspray 2, but really only because it was another movie for Amanda. The original stands by itself well enough, and I can't imagine that a sequel could do very well. I'd love to see her do another musical though; she's got enough talent and she seems to enjoy it. It would also be good for her publicity. Point is, I want her to get back to work.
