Cool ECW 5-13-08

Sci-Fi originally said "The Beast of Bray Road" was coming up next but that beast must be Colin Delaney, because we see him beating Armando Estrada last week to earn his ECW contract.

Estrada: "Do you have any idea how lucky you are - the odds of you beating me were astronomical. If you thought you were a target before, I'm going to see to it that you are now. Just sign on the dotted line. Second thoughts amigo?" Colin grins and signs the contract. Armando informs him his first official match as an ECW superstar will be against Mike Knox. "Best of luck to you." Instead of seeming scared, Delaney has a quiet look of confidence on his face. Don't question his heart I guess - he's still standing here!

We're live from Grand Rapids, Michigan! Adamle says in Delaney's case you should be careful what you wish for, but he may be speaking about our first competitor tonight as well. Punk no doubt wished to be a top star of professional wrestling, but ever since he won the Money in the Bank briefcase he's been jobbed more than Rey Mysterio when he was the World Champion.

* CM Punk v. The Miz

Morrison accompanies Miz to the entrance ramp and both are carrying their tag belts... but Miz has words with Morrison on the entranceway and apparently tells Morrison he won't be needing his help because Morrison heads to the back. The bell rings and both men strip off their excess accoutrements and head for the center of the ring. Punk gets a waistlock from behind and slams Miz down to the ground as the crowd chants his name. Miz tries to get up and get away and gets brought down again. A third time he gets the ropes for the break but ends up eating a sunset flip into a near fall. Punk with an elbow to the back, whip to the corner, catches Miz trying to put up a boot, but then Miz kicks him with the other boot then grounds him for a pounding. Punk fights his way up with knees and kicks but Miz dropkicks him in the back to slump him across the ropes then dives outside to snap his neck off them. A couple of near falls ensue. Miz with a chinlock and Punk struggles to his feet, fighting out with elbows only to get clubbed in the back.

Miz charges Punk in the corner and splashes him down, but only makes a cover for one. Another chinlock with a knee to the small of Punk's back. This is how low Punk is on the totem pole now - he has to sell for Miz for an entire match. That's not meant as a knock on Miz, just saying the more popular man is taking a beating from EVERYONE. Punk finally starts a comeback with a snap suplex, which leads to a boot to the face of Miz for a near fall. Punk pulls Miz up, Miz tries to bridge a pin, Punk lifts them both out of it, Miz kicks him in the gut but misses with a running knee, Punk tries to hit the Go 2 Sleep but Miz counters out of it for the Reality Check and the pin. WINNER: THE MIZ. Okay it's official - CM Punk is now the weakest man to hold any variation of any title in WWE history. Even Chavo Classic had a better run with the cruiserweight title than this. If there's any wonder why ECW ratings keep going down it's because they keep burying Punk every week. Cherry, Michelle McCool and Kelly Kelly are backstage and Adamle says he has "DIVA FEVAH" before we go to a break. After the break a promo for Judgment Day this Sunday featuring JBL and John Cena.

* Cherry, Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly v. Layla, Victoria & Natalya

I'm not sure what the gimmick is lately with WWE putting as many divas in a match at one time as they possibly can. Here's a hint - less is more. Natalya and Victoria take turns beating up Michelle McCool until she hits an armdrag and a boot and gets a quick cover on Victoria. Cherry is tagged in and tries to make a roll up, then starts throwing elbows at Victoria. Victoria escapes under the ropes and Natalya gives Cherry a clothesline. Both Tazz and Adamle point out the toughness of Natalya's pedigree as the daughter of Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart.

Victoria tries to come into the ring and the ref forces her out, so I guess Natalya must have gotten the legal tag earlier. It's just an excuse for Natalya to work on Cherry more behind the ref's back. Victoria finally gets a legal tag and flips herself over the ropes to drop a leg. She goes for the standing moonsault but Cherry gets her knees up and crawls for the tag. Victoria drops an elbow on the back of her head before she can reach Kelly or Michelle. Cherry tries to push her way to the faces but Victoria clubs her down then runs over to the face corner to knock them off the apron. Cherry uses that to turn fortunes and roll up the Victoria when she's not looking for the UNO DOS ADIOS - WINNER: CHERRY AND THE CHER-ETTES.

Backstage Benjamin says that Kofi Kingston is the luckiest man alive, with a horseshoe shoved up where the sun doesn't shine, and he's going to pull it out - or something bizarre to that effect. Kingston gets up in his face and says good luck, and Benjamin shoves him away and says you'd better get up out my interview time, and Kingston shoves him back and into a backstage wall, where Benjamin takes a hard bump to the cement floor and looks pissed about it. Commercial break.

We return from break with a promo for Triple H appearing on the cover of WWE Magazine and Adamle saying that Tazz' shirt looks like a TV test pattern. Both men discuss last night's Raw then preview Triple H v. Randy Orton in a steel cage at Judgment Day. We go back to a flashback from Backlash showing Triple H ending the Era of Orton, even though he vows it's only just begun. From there we move on to Regal explaining the stipulation for their PPV match, with Orton noting he had six months of dominance before he lost to Hunter, and at Judgment Day he'll show exactly why when he gets back his belt. Clips from last night's Raw to end the show with Hunter standing on top of the cage in Detroit. We see Delaney taping up backstage for his upcoming match before we get a video package of all the people who kicked his butt before he earned a contract. Commercial.

Well thanks to that break at least I know which ad reminds me of cutrer's Khali-Zilla song now - it's AutoTrader.com. Apparently Colin Delaney has his own theme music now as he makes his way out to the ring - good for you kid!

* Colin Delaney v. Mike Knox

Before the match begins we see various signs in the crowd like "Delaney's #1 fan" and "Kiss me Punk, it's my birthday." Delaney tries a dropkick to start the match but ends up being clotheslined hard and splashed in the corner by Knox. Knox throws him into the turnbuckle face first and pounds on his back. Mike Does the Knox and gets the three count - it's over in less than a minute. WINNER: MIKE KNOX.

Armando Estrada comes out wearing just a vest and hat with no shirt on. He thanks Knox for the work he did and says Delaney has to face his second official ECW opponent ever - the newest member of the ECW roster - me! "I just signed myself to a very lucrative salary, and my contract had a few more zeroes on it than yours. This is my first official match as an ECW star, referee, do your job, ring the damn bell."

* Armando Estrada v. Colin Delaney

Armando beats him up, herks him up, slams him down hard flat on his back and covers him for three. WINNER: ARMANDO ESTRADA. Blood trickles out of Delaney's nose afterwards as Armando gloats and celebrates. Backstage we see Kane psyching up for his match with John Morrison before we go to a commercial.

After commercial we're promised that the Gold Standard himself Shelton Benjamin will be facing Kofi Kingston. "JAMAICAN ME CRAZY, will he stay undefeated next week!" Morrison comes out and Adamle says something like "twist and kneel, sex appeal" but I'm not rewinding to catch the stupidity of it. Miz accompanies Morrison to the ring - I guess he doesn't mind the extra help in his match against Kane.

* Kane {C} v. John Morrison (Non-Title)

Kane's pyros go off at the top of the stage while Morrison is posing in the ring, and the menacing Kane walks down to the ring with the belt around his waist. Adamle says the Era of Orton might be dead, but you can't beat the Reign of Kane! Morrison bails to the floor so Kane can hit his cornerpost pyros. Morrison tries to get Kane in the corner after the bell to chop down his legs with kicks. No good. Kane gets away with ease and Morrison tries to bail through the ropes. Kane makes sure he's back in quick. Eventually Kane pulls him up by the neck from BEHIND HIS BACK like he's lifting a weight for a bodybuilder exercise, then drops him on his face. It's all Kane as Miz looks on with concern from the outside. Kane grounds Morrison and wraps an arm underneath Morrison's tanned neck for a choke. Morrison fights out and tries to work over Kane's left knee in the ropes. Kane shoves him away and whips him into the corner but Morrison blocks with an elbow and goes after the knee again. Kane misses a clothesline to the corner and Morrison punches the gut. Miz tries to grab Kane's leg from the outside while the ref is distracted, and CM Punk comes down to scare Miz off. Miz goes over to Morrison's corner to give him advice as we go to commercial.

Kane is beating up Morrison as we come back from break. Neckbreaker to Morrison for a two count. Morrison keeps trying to work on the leg with no success. Dropkick to Kane's fae, boot to the gut, climbs to the second rope for punches to the head, Kane throws him off. Same thing, Kane throws him off again. Big boot misses, Morrison chop blocks the left leg and works on it some more. Morrison tries to take Kane down with a dropkick but can only get a one count. No matter how much Morrison works over the leg Kane keeps coming back. He drags Kane to the ringpost and snaps the leg into the pole from the outside. More kicks to the leg with he comes back in until Kane decks him with a punch. Morrison grounds him and Punk tries to send Kane a signal from the outside. Kane gets up and starts unloading on Morrison with punches, clotheslines him in the corner a couple of times, Morrison tries to charge him to no avail as he eats a side slam and gets covered for two. Kane is surprised that he kicked out and goes up to the top rope. Big Red Machine flies! Clothesline connects. Kane holds up a hand to signal it's over, Miz tries to jump to the apron, Punk yanks him back down, Miz whips Punk into the steel steps, Morrison clocks Kane with the belt and then hits a springboard reversal off the ropes to make the cover for three. WINNER: JOHN MORRISON. Miz and Morrison give Kane a beatdown afterwards and Punk is unable to help. Both men pose with the belts as we go off the air.
