That is an unusually long time for the USA. A more typical time period is 2 to 3 days however as I said previously, this is up to the family. Naturally the funeral home wants a fast turn over and Christian funerals are never on Sunday although the wake or viewing of the deceased is frequently on the weekends as more people are available then. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Jewish funerals cannot be held on the Sabbath either. Remember, the funeral ceremony is to provide closure for the family so that they may come to grips with the death.
