hmmmm good question. I also didn't know so I did some research.
A compact is one of those things that all the girls have in their handbags. It's like a small mirror that opens up and has some makeup inside and things like that. They come in all different shapes, sizes and designs so a "jeweled compact" I'm assuming is a compact decorated in jewels.
She apparently won it as a prize for being one of the best dressed.
I've seen those things before, but I never knew what they were called until now. We learn new things everyday.
