I could also tell you Caravaggio pioneered the light/dark style Rembrandt perfected but nobody cares about that. While I understand there's a need for a criteria to value all of them(best grasp of realism? use of light? or control over paint? trueness to the medium? etc etc), i'm more interested in their character, personality traits that led to the work of art.
