You know I meant folk rock, right?
I'm not too steady on the genres, but Damien Rice is folk.
In the more alternative but sort of similar genres there's Wilco and Jeff Buckley. Oh, and Neutral Milk Hotel + Sufjan Stevens.
I would say folk is even weirder than some of the indie stuff. Hope you find something you like
