Braniac trapped him. Zod came from Krypton. In the original Superman, he was trapped in the same type of device that Braniac trapped Clark in by Clark's real father Jorel. In "Smallville" he was accidentally freed by Clark when him and Braniac were fighting in Clark's ice fortress.

Isobel was the name of the witch that posessed Lana. That story line is dead. Kristin as Isobel (the first time) was IMO her best acting job of the series.

The black ship is actually Braniac or Braniac comes "out" of the black ship. Clark has not found out about Lana knowing about it.
