I think he just needed a break from his online lifestyle. He's been moderating several forums as well maintaining websites for a long time. That kind of thing can be very straining.
My getting "promoted" was as shocking as his leave. I'll try to do my best, but I'm obviously not nearly as active as Jonny was. Hell, I have two jobs irl now. But I will be on here atleast once day to randomly delete whatever posts I feel like :P :P
