Open the first .avi, select append avi segment and open the second .avi. Now go to video menu and select Direct stream copy. Check that it's also selected in the audio menu (it should be by default). Finally select save as AVI...
VirtualDub doesn't handle VBR-MP3 though so if you have an .avi with that you need something like VirtualDubMod. In this case it's CBR-MP3 though so there's no problem.
