The third season of "Chappelle's Show" is going to make it onto the air after all -- at least in some form.

Comedy Central says it will roll out new episodes of the series, which was thought all but dead after Chappelle unexpectedly left the production earlier this year, in the spring of 2006. "At long last, viewers will have a chance to see for themselves exactly what Dave Chappelle was working on," the network says.

The cable network has four episodes' worth of sketches to air as a third season. However, Chappelle hadn't filmed any studio segments in which he introduces sketches to a live audience before his departure. Comedy Central says it's still working on a way to present the show without introduction.
Chappelle abruptly quit working on the third season of his show in the spring, only a week after Comedy Central had announced a premiere date for the new episodes. In doing so, he walked away from a reported $50 million deal to produce two more seasons of "Chappelle's Show," which was one of Comedy Central's most popular series.

Rumors swirled for several weeks that the comedian, who appeared in and wrote virtually every sketch on the show, had suffered a breakdown, something he denied after returning from a trip to South Africa. He has since returned to doing stand-up comedy and has made reference to his departure from the show in his act.

Comedy Central will give viewers a peek at the lost "Chappelle's Show" sketches Sunday (Dec. 11) during its "Last Laugh '05" special.
