Another theory: I checked Garfield release dates -- they range from June 18 (U.S. opening) through summer, late summer and fall for international dates (last date I saw on there was late October -- can't remember what country). Germany's release for Garfield is August 2004. So here's my theory: much as we all love her, JLH does not have a ton of heat on her right now. But I think it's building -- with appearances on American Dreams, hopefully her own sitcom in the fall, the release of Garfield in the summer ... so maybe the foreign distributors want to hold off on releasing If Only until Garfield has been out, to capitalize on the momentum of that film if it's a hit. If Only is a smaller, more intimate dramatic film -- so it might make sense to capitalize on a bigger family comedy like Garfield, which will probably attract a larger general audience. Might put JLH in the foreign moviegoing fans' minds again ... then a few months later, they see If Only is opening, and they're more geared up to see a JLH movie again. Just a thought. Fingers crossed for all of this! |
