Good characters are not written, not unless it is a novel. Rarely script writers leave even the slightest hints for the actors on what a character suppose to be like. Directors might provide suggestions to the actors but, in the end, the final product belongs to the actor. Sure, it's easier to work with vilains, but there are no boring characters, only actors who make poor choices.
