I have no idea how this pertains to Chabert in any way...however...I'll weigh in anyway.
There is another of the child stars from that film who recently lost his shack to a bulldozer. What I find very disturbing is that the producers of this film are adamant that they put aside a huge sum in ONE trust fund for each child star's education and future.
Yet, none are going to school. What kind of future can they have if their present is so screwed up? They can't eat or live properly, but they can go to school?
I may be old fashioned, but don't actors usually get paid outright and sometimes have enough to set aside for their future? If the parents couldn't be trusted, fine - then why not set up two funds (one for the present, one for the future)? The terms of any trust fund can be changed.
But the producers wash their hands...publicly. Once again, people from poor sections of the nation have been taken advantage of and are now shown outright disdain through pretty words and false sentiment, even in the face of these obvious atrocities.
Keep in mind that these are children they the producers hired to do a legitimate job. Through the efforts of these kids, the producers now enjoy the fruits that can only stem from winning Oscars.
I do understand that each film is a literal BUSINESS in itself. As such, awards or not, there is a limited amount of cash available for this particular project. However, I find it very odd that Hollywood can turn out in droves to give MILLIONS to political candidates and give only excuses when obviously called to do real good ... or just to make good ... and then publicly act as if it's not their problem. Through the simple act of purposefully auditioning children from these myriad of slums, and then choosing a few from that crowd, it IS the producers problem. Period.
I do not care how good the film is - I don't care if it'd be one of the best I'd ever viewed. I will NOT watch it until these fools take responsibility and do the right thing.
If anyone wonders why I call the Industry out in LA Gomorrah, this is one big reason why. The sad thing is ... this is nothing new. |
