I know it's not directly Lacey-related, but over on l-c.us, there is/was a poetry contest or something like that going on. I thought I should submit my entry, which I wrote a long time ago.
Hi mom!
Sorry I couldn't call you today.
Sorry it's already so late.
I was thinking of you,
Email was the best I could do,
So I hope that you're doing OK.
I was hoping to send you a card.
Being out here makes it a bit hard.
I can't get on the net,
But don't you fret,
When I get home your card will be wahred.
Puerto Rico was somewhat fun.
Ft. Lauderdale had more sun.
I'm not burned any more,
But I am a bit sore,
Cuz the vans hardly ever would run.
I'm going to be home soon.
And I'll turn on the computer in my room.
We'll be playing with some chop-uhs,
And when we pull in no one will stop us,
But they won't let us go home 'til late afternoon.
Hope you had a good time.
Hope you enjoyed my rhyme.
I'll give you a call,
After a short w'all,
But now for me it's bed-time.
Background:
Written in May 1999 while I was in the Navy, as we were returning to Norfolk from Puerto Rico and Ft. Lauderdale, in the few minutes of free time I had before I needed to go hit the sack that night. I was aboard LHD-5, a "gator freighter" which is basically a Marine helicopter carrier, and air-ops were going on at the time.
Last night, purely by coincidence, my mom was cleaning some of the junk from her massive email collection, and found this and sent it to me. I had LOOOONG forgotten all about it, but had a few minutes to spare so I thought I'd give you all something to laugh about. Cuz I'm like that.
Post your own!
(There are no typos. If you can't read something, try saying it out loud. And think of yourself as a Mississippian. and if that still doesn't work, PM me and when I get the chance I'll tell you. It took ME a couple hours to remember what "wahred" meant.

It may help to remember internet greeting cards were big at the time.)
