It isnt to out of the ordinary that an actress will go a year without a movie. So many of the big star have done it. The amount of time that has gone by, especially since there was a 100 day writers strike, shouldnt be all that concerning. Name almost any female actress, they have all had brakes like this.

You all probably touched on the reasons why there was a slow down
-Agency problems
-A writers Strike
-Lack of good roles coming her way
-Sydney White didnt do as good as it should have
-The fact that she has always played the light family comedy and now probably wants something more adult, without it being risqué.
-She isnt always looked at as an adult yet

She probably has to deal with being type cast. Turning down most of the light family comedies (whether there good or not) while looking for more mature roles. Good lead roles of that kind probably arnt coming to Amanda in droves. This Proof movie is probably a good step, a drama role (I cant wait to see it). There is no doubt she is having a harder time finding roles she wants then she used to.
