I think it will make more money than The Dark Knight. Teenagers are crazy for this flick and kids rule when it comes to movie $$. |
Correct, it is being release in December, 2008. One reason films are released right before the end of the year is so that they qualify for the awards the following year.
The Dark Knight grossed over $155M its first weekend. That's a record. "Blockbusters" are traditionally released in the summer when the kids are off school and can go to see them. Furthermore, it is a romance not an action film. I would be surprized if it grossed more than $25M total. If you look at some of Catherine Hardwicke's other films:
Thirteen grossed $4.6M US,
Lords of Dogtown $11M,
The Nativity Story which opened in December - $38M, so its just not in the same league as a film such as
The Dark Knight. Plus look at the competition it will be up against:
Punisher,
The Day the Earth Stood Still,
The Spirit, etc.
